Tax Party!!! Prep for Taxes While Having Fun

Best for: Anyone needed help with preparing for IRS taxes. Especially for first timers and those feeling behind, overwhelmed, or nervous. Shoeboxes welcome!
Topics + Activities: Bring your shoeboxes, spreadsheets, bank statements, whatever you have!  We review the basics for filing with the IRS and what numbers are required (gross sales, deductions, home office, mileage), and then we get to work. Use any method that works for you to find those numbers. We also prepare for Estimated Quarterly Tax Payments for the next year. I'm available for technical questions. Helping each other is encouraged. Where possible, wine + beer is included.
The Result: Taxes are prepped! Smiles on our faces. A round of toasts! Get back to work + life. More confidence for next year.

Marketing Your Way

Best for: New and experienced, anyone who needs to find new clients/customers. Especially for anyone confused or nervous about marketing.

Guest Speaker / Panel Speaker

I can speak on any subject related to being self-employed in Seattle.  I can adjust content for any amount of time, from 5 minutes - 90 minutes.  Whenever possible, I invite a Q&A time, and will bring handouts.  My goal is make the time as useful as possible for the audience, to answer top-of-mind questions, to share whatever information is most needed, and to encourage folks who do want to be self-employed!  If requested, I can bring books to sell at a discount.

Author Readings

Any combination of:  giving a preview of the book, reading excerpts, Q&A time, and/or sharing about the writing process, self-publishing, my work or my business journey.  If we're not in a bookstore, I can bring books to sell at a discount.

Workshops

I love doing hands-on workshops!  My goal is to share essential information, and then to dive in and get some things accomplished.  I'm only happy if attendees are smiling and feeling relief and excitement about whatever we've created or completed.  Some common options are:  Branding, Marketing on one Hand, Getting Licensed, Tax Parties.

Nickel Advice Table

Do you have a group of folks who need specific, targeted advice or information?  This offering includes a series of 1-on-1 personal, quick consults.  You can pick how long the time slots last, suggested 15 - 20 minutes.  Nickels are optional, though appreciated!

I really love speaking and working with adults!  I have a fair amount of experience and training in this area.  Some of my previous roles include:  Adjunct Faculty at Seattle University, Peer Coaching with teachers, Leader at Weight Watchers, Staff Development Committee in Shoreline, Art Specialist/Teacher Trainer, Staff Development for Teachers, Assistant Teacher of Communication Skills Workshops & Team Building at Westinghouse, Yoga Teacher...and in the old days, Trainer at Starbucks and the Old Spaghetti Factory!

I always strive to make every minute useful and relevant to the audience, to make it fun and engaging, as well as informative.  I can adjust for a variety of personality styles, and work to make everyone feel welcome, safe, and free to participate.

How much do your charge?

Currently, I'm willing to work with your budget! I'm willing to be extra flexible if I can talk about my newsletter (Sidekick Services) and sell books. :) 

When are you available?

Generally, Mondays and Thursdays in the daytime. Evenings and Saturdays with enough notice.

What size audiences can you work with?

For talks—from 2 people to 100.
For workshops—the most ideal is 6 - 8 people.
For Nickel Advice Table— 4 - 10 in a row.

What's the minimum size group you'll work with?

This depends on compensation. Generally...

For talks—6 people. 20-40 is ideal.
For workshops—4 people. 
For Nickel Advice Table— 5 - 6 people.

What do you equipment do you need?

I can work in any situation, with or without a/v equipment.

My favorite: if you have a screen and document reader. I do have a projector, though prefer to use yours!

How much time do you need to set up?

Ideally, I like to show up 40 - 60 minutes early, just to test all the equipment, lay out any tools, take a few breaths, and have time to greet people. The minimum I would need is about 10 minutes.

What do you usually bring?

Visuals for the projector, handouts, favorite business books, extra pens. When allowed: newsletter sign-up sheets, and some of my books for sale. Usually some chocolate too!

What if we need to cancel or reschedule?

I'm currently pretty flexible on this. For any talks priced at $300 and higher, I request a 30% fee, if canceled within two weeks of the event. Generally, there no fees for rescheduling.
